  • PRESENTATION
  • Fossil fuel power plants are responsible for some 24% of total EU-27 CO2 emissions and 48% of Romanian emissions and there are the main source for the so-called atmospheric greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide mitigation from flue gas emissions, particularly through the use of technologically appropriate photosynthetic systems, is potentially one the most promising ways to reduce CO2 emissions from the energy sector, both in terms of cost and in terms of environmental impact.
    The Project will set up the first demonstration plant in Romania for mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from thermoelectric plants by using a new and clean technology for biological CO2 sequestration into an integrated photosynthetic system scaled-up to 1200 L, which will demonstrate the cost and time efficiency of CO2 sequestration through an increase of the algal biomass value.
